Crafts Circle

Every second Saturday of the month, like minded people gather together at the OOOOBY Store to share our creativity and skills.

Meet other crafts people, whether they are professional or just creating for a hobby - and share skills and swap ideas somewhere where the kettle is always on and delicious cakes and biscuits are always available!

You dont have to be really 'good' at making stuff, just the passion to try!!

We may also invite group members or outside tutors to come along from time to time to give us classes too.

As a way of supporting the OOOOBY Store who host us, we would ask for a donation of €5 each time you come along.  This will cover your tea/coffee.

So tell your friends, to grab their knitting or any projects they may be making at the moment and come along and let us know what YOU would like this group to offer!

If you would like to go on our mailing/contact list or for more info for this group please contact Lusi

You can also join in on the online crafts discussion

Look forward to meeting you soon!

13 Feb 2010

Our first Craft Circle for 2010 is next Saturday, the second in the month as usual, the 13th February.  We will be offering the circle open of course to any projects you might like to bring along to work with.

We will also be talking 'Crochet' this meeting - lots of you have requested this topic, and as myself and Orlaith are totally mad about it, that suits us fine!!  we both have a little experience of crochet now, and are happy to share what we know with everyone.  We thought it would be nice to learn a few basic stitches and actually try a type of crochet called Hyperbolic - this is based funnily enough on maths and science, but is very easy!!  we will be trying out a few different spiral shapes so we hope you will come along and have a go.

We like to strengthen our link to the Yarn Room shop in Ashford, Wicklow, where Irene has be facilitating workshops to create hyperbolic shapes to be included in the Great Barrier Reef Crochet Coral Exhibition which will be held in Dublin in March.  It is to raise awareness of this vital and disintegrating reef, and exhibitions have been travelling the world with this aim in mind.  So, if you would like to contribute a piece, do come and have a try.  The deadline for pieces is the end of February and should be handed into the Yarn Room by then.

So, hope to see  you on Saturday.

13 Dec 2009

We enjoyed a wonderful Christmas Craft Circle on the 13th December - unfortunately Orlaith could not be there, but Lusi showed everyone how to make Christmas Flax Angels - we had some gorgous angels made that day, and even Siobhan made one!!!  We also started some work with crochet stitches, and many of you managed to pick up a couple of these and  i believe speaking to some of you, this actually led to several hats being made!! i think You Tube was utilised for more crochet information, and i must say, there are thousands of videos showing stitches, patterns etc for both knitting and crochet work there - very useful!!

Our January Craft Circle was cancelled due to the mad snow conditions!!
