Moon phases, energy output, completion of projects...

According to those attuned to the moon's cycles, the Waxing period of dark to full moon draws energy upwards and outwards, things build up, and energy is put out. It invites activity. Planting according to the moon focus' on the drawing upwards of moisture by the gravitational pull, but the last few weeks could certainly be said to have had similar characteristics for us humans too.

Many of our Spring projects are coming to completion, planting and fedge making, shelf building and rainwater catching, as well as those behind-the-scene activities of networking and course set up and organizing. We passed a significant milestone when we shared a meal with our WWOOFers and ate a salad with the very first produce from the land. We had a number of impromptu spring picnics and BBQs with friends and families as time to relax, celebrate birthdays and so on. These, and a great book Wendy brought me back from her trip to California, "Last Child in the Woods, Saving Our Children From Nature Deficit Disorder" by Richard Louv, really affirmed a direction we want to take: That of providing unstructured time to explore nature for children and families or any adult feeling the need to discover or re-evoke their connection.

So please pass on the word to those you think might feel such a need or have an interest in things in the works here, such as the family camp and picnic week, the CELT on the mountain weekend (Drystone walling, Herbs, Wood carving, Tipi making), the Pots and Kilns Week and a Bushcraft/Primitive Living weekend. Details of all of these will be on the website http://www.dulra.org. It would be great to get as many people as possible to subscribe to the newsletter and create a login on the website to be informed as things develop, in case it tweaks their interest.

Hopefully we have set the ball rolling on a number of activities for the next waxing period which starts on June 15th, when we will finish the work on our summer courses, camps, open days, and picnics. Look out for us at the new Wicklow Farmers' Market (we are sharing some space on the Crocker's stall) on Saturdays, starting on 2nd June.

In the meantime we will keep things ticking over, but are planning a couple of weekends off to recharge and "drawn in our energy and build up innerly" during the wainng period, along with the plants!
