Seed collections in Co Wicklow

We know you just got a newsletter from us, but we decided to help Declan Little by passing this on, as the east coast has had some difficulties collecting native seed. See below from Declan:

I am attempting to co-ordinate acorn (oak) collections in Wicklow presently. I will be at Ballygannon Wood on Friday and Sunday next at 10am and 11am respectively. Ballygannon Wood is the Millennium woodland about 2 kms from Rathdrum on the Rathdrum Laragh road. It is signposted from Rathdrum and the car park is on the right hand side of the road beyond the wood entrance (which is on the left hand side of road). We meet in the car park. People arriving late should locate us easily by walking up the woodland paths where most of the acorns are easiest to collect.

Appropriate clothing and footwear is all that is required and its easier if everyone brings a bucket. Some may like to wear thin gloves! I will supply bags to put acorns into. Though not very commercial (i.e. €3.50 per Kg will be paid in due course) it should be an interesting day out for adults and children alike. It also contributes to expanding and appropriately managing our native woodland recourse.

Please use the mobile number below for further details. All are welcome and the more the merrier!

Many thanks.
