"Spring - an experience in immortality." --Henry D. Thoreau
It seems like everyone we talk to, is growing something on their window sill, garden, community garden or allotment. It's great to see so many people getting into growing their own food for the first time, or coming back to it.
Courses & Events
Family Course: With so many families now involved in growing, we are introducing a new course that everyone in the family can attend: Family Food Growing. If your family is interested please contact us as we have two families already signed up and can take one or two more. This course came out of a fantastic suggestion from someone enquiring about our popular Organic Food Growing for the Complete Beginner course, which is overbooked again this weekend (but places available later in the season).
Celebrity Chef Cathal Armstrong, who is a supporter of organics, is attending the Bloom festival, and while he's in the area, he is coming down to visit Carraig Dúlra at 10:30am on Thursday, 28th May. You are welcome to join him and Suzie for an informal Q&A at the farm. Learn more about him in this Washington Post article.
Leave No Trace: We recently joined the Failte Ireland Outdoor Tourism Network, and through this have arranged to host a Leave No Trace Awareness Workshop on Monday 15th June. The cost is €35 including lunch, and is open to anyone interested in responsible outdoor recreation. Places are limited so please book asap if you are interested.
Open days: Our next open days are Wednesday 3rd June and Sunday 21st June. The 21st is also a "swap day" so please bring garden-related items, plants, tools, whatever, as well as other things looking for a new home.
Bushcraft: Could you build your own survival shelter, track an animal or light a fire without matches? The next date for Bushcraft/Primitive Living Skills is 6-7 June. Cost is €180 which includes meals and camping.
Transition Towns: We are hosting a Transition Towns event 12-14 June. Please contact us for more information.
Carraig Dúlra opening a new local country store and market
We strongly believe that local food, local trade and local social networks are the healthiest and most sustainable way forward. We're pleased to announce that we'll be opening a new local country store & market in Glenealy Village soon!
In the store, we'll have organic vegetable plant seedlings for sale, as well as garden supplies, environmentally friendly household items and wholefoods. The weekly market will feature locally grown or locally prepared foods and locally made crafts. It will also have a shared stall for people who have just a little bit to sell. If you're interested in having a stall at the market, please get in touch now - we will provide tables and public liability insurance, and costs for stallholders will be kept as low as possible.
