First meeting of Crafts Circle - THIS SATURDAY 14th November 2-4pm
Lusi & Orlaith write:
We thought it would be a great idea to gather like minded people together, to share our creativity and skills, rather than sitting home alone!! We see this group providing the opportunity to meet other crafts people, whether they are professional or just creating for a hobby - and being able to share skills and swap ideas somewhere where the kettle is always on and delicious cakes and biscuits are always available!
You dont have to be really 'good' at making stuff, just the passion to try!! We can also invite group members or outside tutors to come along from time to time to give us classes too.
We see this group also as a way to promote the Ooooby Store more widely and hope we will be the first of many other groups of people who will utilise and publicise all that this space represents on a community level.
We would ask for a donation of €5 each time you come along, to make a contribution for the use of the Ooooby store, and this will cover your tea/coffee and cake too! There will also be the chance to sell some of your wares over the Christmas period at the OOOOBY's Christmas market - more about this at our first meeting.
So tell your friends, to grab their knitting or any projects they may be making at the moment and come along and let us know what YOU would like this group to offer!
If you would like to go on our mailing/contact list for this group or if you would like any further information, please email Lusi at littlewolf04@gmail.com
We will meet the second Saturday of each month from 2-4pm. Our first meeting is Sat 14th November, and the next one is Saturday 12th December.
Look forward to meeting you soon,
Lusi and Orlaith

She is a creative baker and has numerous specialty recipes for those with specific dietry requirements. Her full list of products will be online very soon at: www.dulra.org/kate-hennessy
Second Hand Clothes
Lusi and Orlaith (of the Crafts Circle) have recently set up a selection of inexpensive and good & nearly new clothing for sale at the OOOOBY store. These are available any day the store is open, and donations of clothing in very good nick are welcomed.
Cooking Group
If you're interested in forming a cooking/baking group at OOOOBY please give us your contact details, as we've had several people asking about setting one up. And if you know of anyone giving away a suitable cooker or hob that could be used for the group at the store, please let us know!
OOOOBY in the Press
We've recently been in the Wicklow people, the Irish Times, and Mike was interviewed about OOOOBY on East Coast Radio!
What should be planted now / garden tasks
Its definately slow down time in the garden, but on a nice clear day ground can be mulched to make spring weeding a doddle. If you have an indoor space, winter greens in the form of "cut and come again" are a lovely side plate addition. Thinking about bare root season is coming, so planing where you might like some fruit trees and bush fruit is a good idea.
Of course you might like to just sit somewhere warm and look out at the birds if you put up feeders near a window. Ideal foods during extreme cold weather are sunflowers, peanuts and peanut cakes. All of these foods contain a high calorie level and are plentiful in the fats that birds need to consume and reserve to ensure they can maintain body temperature when the cold sets in after dark.
BUT...Always remember that if you start putting out bird food you must continue through the entire Winter, as the birds become dependant on finding food there and waste valuable time hanging around waiting for your food to show up leaving them to weak to locate a new source. Find good bird feeding advice here: http://www.birdguides.com/webzine/article.asp?a=1791
The OOOOBY Community Food Store is open from 11:30 to 3:30 every Saturday and 10-5 on Tuesday, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Come visit the store and help us to build a community around food and ecological issues. OOOOBY is not just a store, but a platform to create a strong community on.
We're located at the Glenealy Landscape Centre in Glenealy village. Hope to see you there!
