Community Outreach feedback

Carraig Dúlra received feedback from a community outreach project: Our centre targets members of the local community who are living in income poverty or who are at risk of social isolation, and is located in a local authority housing estate. The course that Carraig Dúlra delivered at our centre combined teaching about, sustainable resource use, organic food production, permaculture, biodiversity and climate change, as well as hands on skills development through creating the community garden. The integration of different teaching methods, combined with an inclusive and warm learning environment led to the formation of a strong learner group, who felt ownership over the community garden, and hence continued to work on the garden after the course completed. We intend to use the community garden as a space to raise awareness locally in our community about the link between local food production and global sustainablity, through running workshops (for adults and youth) in the garden and holding an exhibition about the group’s work on World Environment Day, 5th June 2014, in the local library.
